Opposites Attract

Tim and I will be celebrating twenty-five years of marriage this summer. Twenty-five years? Am I old enough to have been married that long? (Well I was 10 when we married…) I question how life passed so quickly? More importantly I question where are we going to go to celebrate? You think I’m being petty, but this is a big deal because when it comes to vacation getaways, Tim and I could not be more different.

For me it’s pretty simple: beach, chair, book, ocean and PLENTY of sunshine. That is really all I require. There is just something so soothing and tranquil about the sound of the waves combined with the smell of the salt air and the continuous breeze to keep me from getting too hot. I mean it people, this is what heaven is to me. Ahhhhhhh……

Tim on the other hand loves a vacation with a lot of doing! No sitting still for him. Whether it is exploring a nature trail, taking in the local attractions, going on a zip-line, climbing a mountain, or anything else that is NOT just being by the beach reading a book. No sir, no sitting around reading for my man. (I know, how in the world have we lasted this long?!?!?!?!)

Funny story, one of my favorite vacations was when Tim and I went to a resort in Cancun, Mexico just the two of us. I loved it so much because we did nothing but enjoy the pool, the ocean and Mexican food (again, heaven!) How did I get Tim to go for this? Well, he had his appendix out on Saturday and we left for Cancun that next Thursday. Yep, he was not allowed to do anything but rest, relax and recover. Does this make me a bad person that I enjoyed the trip so much? I’m going to say no… I just made the best of a bad situation. Right?!?!?

So you see there is a dilemma… there is also a budget. Combine the two and you’ll understand why we have no idea where we are going…yet. But you see I’m an optimist and I truly believe we will find a solution to this problem. Who knows, maybe we’ll find a beach with a zip-line over it!!

It Happened

It happened… Tim and I got old. How do I know you ask? Well it was quite simply really, we sat down after dinner last night and Tim asked if there was anything good on TV… that’s when it happened. Are you sitting down? I said “Well there is a Hallmark Christmas movie on.” He said, “Sounds great!” And that is when it hit me… we are officially old. <sigh> SMH.

It’s over, we have officially jumped the shark. No longer can we ever be considered anything other than middle agers. Yep, not young adults, not thirty-somethings but middle age. TBH I knew it was coming. It’s not like you can be an empty nester and still considered young adults but I just didn’t think it would happen this soon or via the Hallmark Channel.

But there is good news in all of this. Hubby is loving the Christmas movies on Hallmark so I get to watch them all!! What… you expected something else?

*for those of you REALLY old, SMH: shaking my head, TBH: to be honest. You are welcome. Now go get on Twitter and pretend to be young.

Shaking My Head…

The clock on our mantel died last night. It’s not like it’s an expensive clock… less than $25.00 from Target but it’s the main clock in our den so I rely on it quite heavily. The problem? It died at 9:03 and even after Tim pointed out that it was dead I continued to look at it to see what time it was. Yep, for one hour and 52 minutes I thought it was still 9:03pm… When my husband said he was tired and going to bed I found myself looking at the clock, shaking my head and thinking, “Boy is he getting old! First day of break and heading to bed at 9:03pm.” I really kind of felt sorry for him that he couldn’t stay up any later… it was almost embarrassing.

It gets worse… I was so tired I could hardly keep my eyes open as I tried to watch the Redskins play the 49ers but I kept looking at the clock and thinking I am not going to bed this early!! That is ridiculous. Then my phone buzzed and as I picked it up to read the message I… about… died… Yep, it was 10:55pm and here I sat trying not to be an old fuddy and go to bed before sunset. It was not until that very moment that I realized I’d been looking at the stopped clock for almost two hours NEVER NOTICING THAT THE TIME WASN’T CHANGING!!! Nope, thought Matt’s friend left at 9:03pm, thought halftime started at 9:03pm, thought halftime was over at 9:03pm, thought Tim headed to bed at 9:03pm.

It’s obvious that I am either way too excited about having my boys home for Thanksgiving or way too tired from getting ready for them. Either way my friends, it’s going to be a long day… but a really good week!!
